What you do as a WO1 will
follow you the rest of your career. This is where you will have to prove
yourself to your peers and command. They will all expect you to be an
expert (unless you are Aviation) and you should do your best not to
disprove this fact.
Never be a smartass or look down on peers or subordinates. Try to mentor everyone. You will run into people who are just total idiots, but there is nothing you can do about it. If it is in your chain of command, the best thing you can do is make them stick to a counseling schedule. Make them do an initial and monthly or quarterly counseling session to let you know how you are doing based on their idea of your job performance. Keep copies of the statements. Never, ever sign your OER without having someone else look it over. You are not there to order around senior enlisted soldiers. They are mentors to you, even if that is where you came from. Remember, the NCO is the Backbone of the army (If they are proficient). Warrant's can not do it all by themselves. |
