YOUR JOB SHOULD BE 50% MENTORING

CW4.  You know the answers.  Everyone asks your opinion.  People trust your answer, your word, and your job performance.  No one ever has to look for you, they expect you to be there daily as the senior WO.  You are the interface to the command for Warrant Officer Issues.  You should have Warrant Officer Professional Development meetings going on no less than monthly.

It is essential for all WO's to discuss issues concerning their career, their job, and the command climate. You must try to help junior WO's understand why certain things are happening, what they can do to help make things better, and what you are doing to help. Assist as an interface to the command when necessary.  Junior WO's should come to you with most issues before going to the command.

Warrants First!

One thing that really bugs the hell out of us is seeing W4's working strictly for an OER. I know it is tough making CW5 now, but there are some things that just can't be replaced and that is the power of the Grey Wolf.  Good OERs can be achieved without ignoring the requirements of the Corps. The respect you get by being a leader of the Corps is something you can't get from an OER.

You Are the Grey Wolf

This is the TOP of the ladder for Warrant Officers.  W-5's are battalion or higher. Junior WO's will go to YOU.  When you retire or make W-5, judge your  W-4 years success by how many junior Warrants  you helped bring up to fill your place?

Mentorship

Develop our junior Warrants. You may have to go to war with them. Or worse, I might.
